Forgiveness and Fear Ramblings.
So the question today is "If I don't forgive and move on will I be just like the one who wronged me?" Initially, I would say that is correct, but there is a problem though. I believe this saying, but I find that there are times when I would rather hand on to the anger and bitterness. There are times when I feel the one who is wronged is winning if I just give in and forgive him. I know that's wrong, but it's natural to want the one who hurt you be hurt too right?
Thinking about my father, I know I should forgive him, but I don't know if I want to. How can you forgive someone for the abuse and hate that I have shown every day. I know it's not supposed to be easy, but why does it seem impossible? How can you forgive someone who isn't sorry that they hurt you? Is it possible? I know the theory is wrong, but a part of me feels if I don't forgive him, I am somehow hurting him, when in reality, I am only hurting myself. I don't know. I never claimed to have all the answers and I know I never will.
So kind of on this topic, fear is a scary thing. Once you let it in, it grabs hold with its talons and doesn't let go. It grows and grows. It becomes more and more powerful and eventually we have no control. Fear takes away our desire to expand. How can we expand if we are too afraid of anything?
Life changes when fear is present. You do less and less. you sit at home just wishing you were out doing what you wanted to do. Your life passes you by and the only memories you have are of wishing for more. Time passes and you age. By this time you look back on your life, and you are shocked by what you see. You see a life wasted. You see a million regrets and wishes. You see you aren't happy and never have been. You see that everything you did was ran by something other than yourself. You had no say in the matter, or did you?
Is there a way we can beat fear or is it undefeatable? Oh believe me, there is hope. Fear is beatable, we just have to be willing to work a little. The key is don't let fear get bigger than it was meant to be. You may laugh a little at that, but there is truth to it. I mean what would happen if we followed the advice. How many people in life have a fear of something? I mean people are afraid of spiders, the dark, and many other things. Now I'm not saying, that is wrong. But it is wrong when we let the fear stop us. People who are afraid of failing, succeeding and afraid of letting their lights shine because that would makes others seem insignificant are wrong. They are wrong, because at this point, they have let the fear rule and take over their lives. They sell themselves out, without even realizing it.
I'm not saying never have fear. Just don't let it take hold and dictate who you become. YOu don't want to look back on your life and see it was a a wasted mess.
The way to overcome fear is to face it full on. It does no good to turn your back and ignore it. Yes, you may have to face it many times, but believe me, it is well worth it. So fear not, for fear can be beaten if only we will try.
